We have had request to come up with some type of cooking tools that could be used during camping or outside events. In this class, you will be forging out a meat fork. You can embellish it any way you like, add a twist or brass highlight. The choice will be your decision. If time permits, we will work on forging out a spoon. We hope to offer other related classes, perhaps a trammel system or treble hooks, maybe even a knife too. While yes it is July, we will be working in air conditioned forging area and using propane forges. We may be sharing forges to reduce the heat generated in the room, but it should not affect your work station.
Working with hot metal requires some precautions – substantial, closed-toed shoes are required. Cotton, wool, or other non-synthetic clothing is recommended – things like nylon or fleece can melt and stick to skin. We’ll teach ways to work with the metal that shouldn’t need gloves. Eye and Ear protection are required – we can provide it for $5.00 or you can bring your own.
If you are buying a ticket for someone else, please let us know who will attend the class and provide contact information so we can best tailor the instruction for the class make-up or contact attendees in case of last-minute changes or cancellation.
– Bring your own lunch. We will take a mid-class break. We will have water available.
