Description

The May 11th CVBG Meeting at the Banton-Smith Center, 2478 Dogtown Road, Goochland, VA 23063 will feature Randy Cox presenting a class on Repoussé in copper!  This meeting will be a hands-on class for everyone present (up to 30 people).  Beginning with an overview of “What is repoussé?”, we’ll continue by everyone making their own tools to use in the class.  Next, we transfer our design drawing onto the copper sheet and learn the techniques for working the metal – marking, pushing, stretching, and shaping it to create a three-dimensional work of art.

All work will be done cold (no forging).  The work involved takes some hand strength and dexterity but is not strenuous.  The pace is relaxed.  All materials will be provided.  We’ll begin at 9:00 am, take breaks as needed, and pause around noon for lunch and Iron-in-the-Hat.  We’ll continue into the afternoon as needed to complete our projects, learn a little more about working copper (and other metals), and wrap up any questions or follow-up.

Hands-on participation in the class will require registration prior to the meeting and payment of a $25 fee to cover the cost of materials.

The Guild will provide water and soft drinks.

Randy is talented and entertaining, a gifted artist and craftsman, and an excellent teacher.  Don’t miss this opportunity to learn, create, and have FUN!
